What to do in Vlissingen

Vlissingen, city by the sea. A unique destination that combines the urban character with the endless possibilities of the beach and water. You can take a leisurely stroll on the 2 km long boulevard or spend a day on one of the 7 beaches. The shipping activities that can be viewed from the boulevard are unique, ships sail past at just a stone's throw away! From one of the many terraces on the boulevard you can enjoy this beautiful view. In addition to maritime sights, you will find historical buildings in the city centre, interspersed with exceptional contemporary architecture. In the city centre you can enjoy a day of shopping and relish the wide range of restaurants, brasseries and cafes.

A day at the beach

Wonderful, a day at the beach! And a beach in the city, which makes Vlissingen so unique! You can walk straight from the city onto the boulevard and onto the beach. You can choose from 7 beaches: the Badstrand, Klein Zandje (please pay attention to the tide times!), Nollestrand, Duinstrand, Westduin, Ritthem and Kalootstrand. Vlissingen beaches fly a Blue Flag. You will find beach pavilions along the entire coastline.

Activities

There is always something to do in Vlissingen, for young and old. Indoors and outdoors. A day at the beach or in the woods, a lovely walk along the boulevard, shopping in the city centre, watching a movie in the CineCity cinema, visiting historical sites, relaxing in the Vrijburgbad swimming pool, visiting an attraction or museum, city walks organised by the muZEEum or a trip on the Westerschelde Ferry to Breskens. You can also take the Zonnetrein from De Punt (opposite the station), through the city centre, across the boulevard and past various attractions and special sites. A unique experience and an attraction in itself!

Events

Vlissingen is a real festival and event city. Small and large events are organised throughout the year, both inside and outside the city centre. Theatre, music, dance, sports, markets, culture and art in a unique place by the sea. Vlissingen has got it all! The main attractions are the New Year's Day Plunge (January), Liberation Festival (May), Cuisine Machine (June), Vlissingen Vintage (June), Festival Onderstroom (July), the Vlissingen Funfair (July), Rescue Vlissingen (every other year in August, even numbers), Oude Visserijdagen - Fishing Days (August), Film By The Sea (September), Heritage Day (September), Strandcross (October), Arrival Sinterklaas (November) and Festival Wonderstroom/Wonderstad Vlissingen (December). In addition, there are markets several times a year on the boulevard of Vlissingen, such as the Easter Market, Pentecostal Market and Summer Market.

Experience and discover Vlissingen through activity and sports. Put on your walking or running shoes and explore the beach and the dunes. Skate on the tarmac boulevard, or challenge yourself on the running course in the Nollebos. Various sporting activities are organised in Vlissingen throughout the year. Such as walking tours, fun runs and various activities (including volleyball) on and around the beach.

Zeeland is also known for its extensive cycling network. In Vlissingen you can enjoy the beautiful nature and views from your bicycle. Along the water, over or under the dunes or through the forest.
